Tip of the Week: Take advantage of unique weather to create unique photos. I figured that now would be the best time to talk about snow since it appears that about half of Georgia will experience it within the next day. These photos were taken a few years ago (2009) after experiencing around 8 inches of snow in Athens. We took the dogs out and they were thrilled to find the ground covered with cold edible fluff. They ran around while I took photos of them enjoying the change of scenery. For exposure, I set the camera to manual mode and metered off the snow in the sunlight. I overexposed the camera reading around 2 stops for my base exposure. I overexposed to ensure that the snow was white in the photo while retaining some detail in the highlights. With the exposure set, I could focus on the timing and composition of the photos without having to worry about the camera making the wrong auto-exposure. |
